Overdue Update

For those of you who have been patiently waiting for an update...I apologize! Its been crazy at school, at home, everywhere!  All of our classes have been moving along perfect schedule and learning A LOT!!

ECEI:  We went through STD's, and have been learning about conception and how fetal development begins.  We had our guest speakers from the Pregnancy Resource Center come and talk to us twice and give a fabulous presentation on STD's and sexual health.  We all really learned a lot as we looked at the staggering, frightening statistics on STD's in our country and state.  We will continue to move into prenatal development the next couple of weeks and then into labor and delivery.  We will have our first food days at the end of the month, more to come on that later.

IECE:  We are in full swing 3 days a week at Sweetwater, having a great time working with the kids and helping the teachers at SWES.  We have begun looking at the various educational theorists and how they have contributed to how we teach and view child development today.

HSNYC:  We have been busy, busy, busy! We did hand washing and general health practices and standard precautions.  We have jumped full speed into Child Abuse and are currently looking at mandated reporting and comparing state laws.

In other news, we will be submitting our grades this week for the first 9 weeks report card.  Should you have any questions about your child's grade, please contact either one of us, or both of us by email or phone.

As always, you can keep up with your child's progress on Infinite Campus.  We update our grades at least once a week so they stay pretty accurate.

Until next week...enjoy your fall break!! No school Friday or Monday!! Woohoo!!!

Weekend Update

What a wonderful, busy week we had in our classroom this week!!!  All of our classes are still fantastic and we are so excited to watch the progress continue this year!!

ECEI:  We talked about appropriate and inappropriate dress in the workplace.  We made collages of what to wear/what not to wear and watched examples of good/bad interviews.  We did mock interviews with partners and showed the right and wrong ways to conduct yourself in an interview.  Next week, we will move into the 6 step problem solving method and look at our CTSO, FCCLA!!

IECE:  We wrapped up our Career Project Unit and moved into talking briefly about how to dress for the job you want.  Next week, we will look at how to conduct yourself in the ECE classroom as we prepare to take on SWES in the next couple of weeks.

HSNYC:  We started talking about age appropriate toys and began inventing our own toys for young children.  Next week, we'll talk about how to make a chid feel good about themselves and boost their self esteem which leads to better mental health for young children.

Don't forget your opportunity for extra credit all year with Dress for Success Wednesdays!!

Ms. Lee is in right now and I'll be back on Thursday! Have a great weekend!!!

Weekend Update

We've survived our first FULL week of the school year and are off to a fantastic start.  Becky and I are in a dreamworld with our classes and could not have asked for better students to work with!  We are plugging right through our first units, everyone is jumping right in and really seem to be grasping these first concepts as we get our rosters settled.  Here's where we are in each class right now:

ECEI:  Chugging right through our employability unit!  We've covered how to fill out a job application, write a cover letter and build a resume'.  All of our classes are fantastic, but 8th period really made a good impression on me today building those resume's.  They jumped right in and followed every direction I gave them.  It was a great end to a hectic Friday!  We'll move into Dress for Success next week and start discussing how to dress for the job you want.  As we move into this part of the unit, we'll start having dress for success day once a week, where students can earn bonus points to help them on tests as the year progresses.

IECE:  We began our career study project this week and everyone is just about ready to begin presenting on Monday and Tuesday.  Everyone has been working hard and I can't wait to see the final product of these PowerPoint presentations.  After we finish this, we will jump right into Interviewing skills and look at how to land that job in early childhood education.  Remember...if you haven't bought your spiral notebook for your journal, do so quick, I'll be doing a notebook check next week!!

HSNYC:  We sped through classroom sanitation this week and discussed the why's and how's of keeping the ece classroom a clean place.  Today, we looked at storing medications in day cares and school settings and had a guest speaker, Ms. Lauren DiTaranto, our health monitor come tell us exactly how she handles everything at Lithia! We were grateful she took time out of her busy schedule to come and give us the expert perspective.  Next week, we will spend a few days looking at age appropriate toys in day cares and early childhood settings.  Remember...you also need to make sure you have your spiral or 3 ring notebook next week for a notebook check!

All 7 classes need to remember to turn in any signed forms they haven't turned in yet.  That includes syllabus, photo release, SWES release (IECE).  If you lost anything and need a new one, they can be found on the school website on my page (Evan Hopkins) under the forms section.  Just print what you need, get it signed and bring it back.

I'm looking forward to posting lots of pictures next week of all of the great stuff we are doing in A210! Have a great weekend...say a prayer the rain stays away, my triplets have their 4th birthday party to enjoy outside!!!

Ece1: we'll be looking at employability skills and how to land the perfect job! We're starting with job applications ( don't forget to bring a blank one you pick up next time you come to class). After that, we will look at cover letters and resume's

IECE: we've begun talking about and exploring careers in early childhood education. We're partnering up to do a career exploration project for the next week. Don't forget to get your sweet water elementary release form signed!

Hsnyc: we will begin our classroom sanitation unit and talk about how and why it's important to keep the classroom germ free in the elementary world!

Have a fantastic weekend!!
